Youth Allowance Changes

From the 1st January 2012 it is expected that the government will change the definition of an independent for Youth allowance purposes. This may result in the definition being changed back to a child earning $20,000 over an 18 month period to be deemed independent and therefore not be tested based on their parents income.

Potential Youth Allowance recipients in anticipation of this change should be ensuring they are “PAID” for work done during the 2011 financial year, to assist their claim for independence on the 1st January 2012, when the independent rules are anticipated to be changed.

If you have any queries in relation to these changes, please contact your Client Manager to discuss.
